African fashion with a little spice for Taste and Threads at FAME Week Africa 2025

Tastes and Threads takes place on 3 September as part of FAME Week Africa; an international gathering of the film, television, fashion and music industry. Each collection by the eight designers will be paired with a flavorful dish as part of an 11-course meal curated for the high-fashion event. 

Just as African film and television has burst onto international screens, vibrant African fashion continues to set pulses racing internationally. Visiting delegations from across Africa, Europe, the East and the USA are set to gather in Cape Town to network, trade and trendwatch for FAME Week Africa. The evening will be a highlight of the industry event with limited tickets available to the public. 

Tickets are R1300 and include an 11 course meal, welcome drinks and the fashion show. Spyced is in the Silo District and the evening starts at 18h30.

Laud Pulse by Busi Silwanyana

Langa’s very own Busi Silwanyana is committed to showcasing the vibrant world of South African clothing. Inspired by her township’s best-dressed individuals at gatherings during her formative years, Busi’s vision seamlessly blends classic African aesthetics with modern fashion. Her brand, Laud Pulse, embodies the essence of contemporary sophistication and cultural richness. Garments are thoughtfully designed for the female form and present a wide range of flattering African wax prints, a collection curated for accessibility and everyday glamour. 

Kat van Duinen by Kat van Duinen

Celebrating the African continent through leather and luxury fashion is visionary designer Kat van Duinen, who established her brand in Cape Town 15 years ago. Her passion for quality and sustainability is evident in every couture gown and handcrafted bag, showcasing timeless designs, ethical production, and elegant tailoring. Kat van Duinen has become a leading leather house in the world of African luxury fashion.

Jacques LaGrange - Jacques LaGrange 

Also known as South Africa’s “King of Couture”, Jacques believes high-fashion is a lifestyle, one he has been committed to for over 22 years. His passion for fashion was sparked by his mother’s creativity and elegance in Paarl, where he grew up. Now, a timeless and unmistakable brand, Jacques LaGrange has set the standard for modern elegance and luxurious fabrics. 

E_Mania by Kuhle Phumzile Zondo 

Conscious and creative define Kuhle Phumzile Zondo’s E_Mania, a fashion label deeply rooted in sustainability. Kuhle honors her heritage through intricate detail, from cowry beads to yarn, her collections are coded with a sense of pride and African identity. The garments produced by E_MANIA are crafted with care and designed to be repaired, reused, or recycled, making each item a unique art piece that transforms over time.

FABRIK&MOI by Carline Grunfelder

Tailor-made, ready-to-wear and embroidered are Caroline G’s signature creations. She was motivated to make clothing by her mother at the age of 12, which later led to the birth of FABRIK&MOI while living in Réunion Island. Her personal journey as a passionate opera singer and love of turning global fashion trends into fashion couture have shaped her story. FABRIK&MOI has been proudly worn by pageant queens and celebrities alike.  

MASA MARA by Nyambo Masamara 

Nyambo Masamara is a Rwandan-born designer of the bold and striking fashion label MASA MARA. Dressed in colour and confidence, MASA MARA is a form of wearable art. Each piece narrates a story of rich African cultures by blending urban streetwear and ethnik aesthetics. Nyambo Masamara has built a powerful brand that has made a significant impact on runways across the continent.

MUNKUS by Thando Ntuli 

Influenced by the 80’s and 90’s South African fashion, MUNKUS is a label that brings fashion close to home. Thando Ntuli uses bright colours, prints and moving silhouettes to celebrate the versatility of South African women and the township, her primary inspirations. Laying is unique to MUNKUS garments, creating ready-to-wear clothes for casual or formal occasions. 

Zeitgeist by Maxine Ginsberg and Wilko Risser 

Zeitgeist is a prominent menswear label based in Cape Town, founded by Maxine Ginsberg and Wilko Risser. Their designs feature timeless cuts and neutral color palettes that are suitable for any gender and silhouette. Zeitgeist prides itself in manufacturing fabrics in South Africa, supporting the sustainability of the local fashion industry.
